Thus far in the Wuthering Heights press run, Margot Robbie and her glam team have embraced a romantic fever dream aesthetic aligned with the film itself: unexpected hair accessories, goth-slash-glam couture gowns, and now, a dress enhanced not with ribbons or lace, but with braided strips of real human hair.
There are layers—pun intended—to this level of detail. For the UK premiere of the Emerald Fennell-directed film, Robbie wore a sheer nude Dilara Findikoglu gown with a corseted bodice, decorated with braided golden-brown ropes of real human hair across the bodice, shoulders, and long, slim skirt. But the hair detail has a deeper significance—not only does it give the dress an earthy, fairytale-like texture, it’s also paying homage to the Brontë sisters in the most beautiful way.
According to hairstylist Claire Moore, who collaborated with Robbie’s stylist Andrew Mukamal and designer Dilara Findikoglu on the gown, the braided hair detail was inspired by a precious bracelet worn by Charlotte Brontë, sister of Wuthering Heights writer Emily Brontë. The bracelet, a replica of which Robbie wore to the premiere, was created in part with hair from both Emily and Anne Brontë, and Moore worked to match their golden and brown hair colors exactly; she made swatches of the colors, which Findikoglu then took to the Brontë Parsonage Museum to compare with the bracelet band for complete accuracy. (Moore tells Allure that this process took about a week.)

Once the hair colors were correct, a team of braiders got to work crafting each piece and sewing it to the gown. (Watch some of that truly gorgeous process here.) In total, Moore says the team used 22 packets of 24-inch hair for the final look.
