It’s been almost a year since Taylor Swift released her twelfth album, The Life of a Showgirl, and fans think the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter has something big up her sleeve for album 13. After all, 13 is her lucky number, and she’s had a big year—she literally tied the knot at Madison Square Garden! Thus, Swifties are on high alert for hints about what’s next for Swift, and we think her recent updo may hold a clue.
In a long, wide-ranging conversation with the Songwriters and Composers wing of the Grammy Museum, Swift opened up about her process and career thus far, then performed a mashup of a few songs: “I Knew It, I Knew You” from Toy Story 5, “August” from Folklore, and “All Too Well” from Red. The conversation was great, of course, but we were paying very close attention to the little details—namely her hairstyle. Fans have noted a whole lotta floral motifs in Swift’s recent wardrobe, and she’s not only wearing a floral-accented dress here and playing a floral-painted piano, but even her hairstyle looks like a floral bouquet!
Swift wore her dark blonde hair—which she recently cut into a lob—in a loose, low updo with sections gathered and twisted into a rose-like shape near her ears and at the nape of her neck. The resemblance to a flower may not be intentional and this could just be my Swiftie Easter egg brain working overtime, but does it not look like a rose or peony in full bloom? And if we know anything about Swift, it’s that she never does anything unintentionally, including her beauty details. She paired her updo with her signature cat-eye liner and a soft rose lip, a notable departure from her go-to red and cinnamon orange. (Hmm, a rose lip, you say?)
