It’s hard to pin down pianist and composer Eric Pan’s music, he is a troubadour and traveller both literally and creatively. Pulled towards jazz during his studies at the University of California, Santa Cuz, he’s been at the heart of New York’s vibrant grass roots scene for some time as well as building a strong reputation as an innovative solo performer around the Berlin clubs. As a touring musician he’s seen stages from Europe to Costa Rica, across numerous US states through to Taiwan, his birth-place. Berlin-based Finnish artist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Jonsjooel returns with a stunning cinematic track, ‘Somewhere Else Than Here’. Taken from the forthcoming EP Voices of A First Day, the track showcases some brilliant ideas/ Rooted in his jazz-trained background, ‘Somewhere Else Than Here’ is a compelling example of Jonsjooel’s writing, built as much as a soundtrack as it is as a track. Opening with a long, intricate meld of piano and synth arpeggios which bounce create an uneasy, slightly off kilter rhythm, the track soon introduces an elegant and melancholic falsetto vocal.
