Meanjin/Brisbane’s Zanna Black unveils the gorgeously evocative track ‘This Town’ – a glorious, ethereal paean to dispossession and loss. – Backseat Mafia
Meanjin/Brisbane singer/songwriter Zanna Black is releasing a gloriously ethereal track ‘This Town’ tomorrow and we are inordinately honoured to bring you an early listen. ‘This Town has a delicate, fey delivery, filled with a whimsical whirl that is enticing and transfixing. Black’s voice dances through the ether, drenched in a yearning melancholia, a bed of strings providing a comforting iridescent glow. There is a gentle tone reminiscent of Christina Perri, and yet imbued with an antipodean sunshine that sparkles in the sunlight. Fittingly, the accompanying video is awash with shimmering sunshine and rolling waves as Black and her band performs – a deep geographical connection to the landscapes and the…

Let the glorious summer vibes of Jimi Tenor’s new single “Summer of Synesthesia” wash over you – Backseat Mafia
Jimi Tenor’s “Summer of Synesthesia,” out now on Timmion Records, is a stunning blend of psychedelic soul and library music, resplendent with lush summer chords and an electronic sheen that radiates warmth. Over Cold Diamond & Mink’s steady, soulful rhythm, Tenor layers delicate synth textures, creating an intoxicating atmosphere where sounds seem to turn into colors and flavors. This track, which also features Tenor’s understated yet poignant vocals, but on minimally as he lets the track breathe, feels like a vivid postcard from sun-soaked days, an irresistible reminder of warmer times. Released on a 7” vinyl single on February 28th, “Summer of Synesthesia” is both nostalgic and forward-thinking—a testament to…

Italy’s Kodaclips ‘Fall Apart’ in the most elegant manner with a glorious single ahead of album release. – Backseat Mafia
We are very honoured to premiere the new track ‘Fall Apart’ from Italian group Kodaclips: a burning intense track that has a shoegaze haze and a powerful drive. Very much part of the Italogaze movement, Kodaclips have a history of producing the most mesmerising material, and the new single continues with their upwards trajectory. The track precedes the band’s forthcoming album ‘Gone Is The Day’ and captures perfectly this band’s uber cool presence – the song has scything crystalline guitars with the distant observant vocals threading through the percussive beat and the shimmering muscular wall of sound. An arching, aching chorus creates an anthemic blush – indelible melodies shine through…

Swedish drone rockers The Janitors release glorious new single, Lies – Backseat Mafia
The Janitors’ latest single, “Lies,” offers a haunting glimpse into their upcoming album, “An Error Has Occurred,” set to release on May 24th via Rocket Recordings. With a sound seemingly a direct descendant of the Velvet Underground, the track is steeped in darkness and carries a slightly ominous aura. Of the track, the band say “It’s a bit of a double edged sword this song. It’s about lies by a specific person or the lying fat scumbags in power, your choice. Most songs on the album have that duality. It’s a pretty classic Janitors song. The one riff that just keeps going, and the old quiet/loud dynamic that we love…
