Blackbirds F.C. wants to know – ‘What’s The Half-Life of Loving You?’, a delicious sparkling sonic score. – Backseat Mafia
We are extremely proud to bring you an exclusive early listen to the new single, enticingly entitled ‘What’s The Half-Life of Loving You?’, from one of our favourite bands, Melbourne’s Blackbirds F.C.. The track is another example of the band’s inherent ear for soaring melodies and jangling guitars with a slight alt. country inflexion. The bass pulses with a febrile vibrancy and the percussion drives the pace, with heavenly harmonies singing at the edges. It’s a thrilling journey that jingles and jangles with a yearning melancholia. Blackbirds F.C. unveil their latest slice of sonic mastery with the single ‘Lake of Stars’ ahead of launch date and a new album on the horizon. – Backseat Mafia
Naarm/Melbourne band Blackbirds F.C. are purveyors of the most sublime jingle jangle indie pop and they are back with a new single, ‘Lake of Stars’, which we are proud to premiere today. ‘Lake of Stars’ is off the band’s forthcoming third album. The guitars are crystalline and knife-sharp with the harmonised vocals coasting over the driving beat and weeping strings. The result is something that is as expansive as the blue skies over the outback, painting a vivid lyrical picture that captures the geography with images as sharp as that captured by a high resolution camera: The lake will feed your soul, hide and comfort youAnd send you back to…

Blackbirds F.C. are back on the field and score a blinder with the evocative ‘Rings Around The Sun’. – Backseat Mafia
Back in November 2022, Naarm/Melbourne band Blackbirds F.C. impressed with their album ‘Magiclands’ (see my review here, complete with the usual lame puns), and now we are proud to premiere their gorgeous new single ‘Rings Around The Sun’. Coasting on a delicious Hammond organ bed, the vocal duties are taken up by Gina Hearnden as the acoustic guitars ring out and luscious harmonies edge the delivery. There is an almost alt country ring to the track, augmented by the weeping violins that recalls The Triffids – an aching melancholia that creates vast, endless cinematic vistas and an electric undercurrent. Songwriter Jeremy Gronow says ‘Rings Around The Sun’ was written during…
