The magnificent Sharon Van Etten is back with a new band, Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory and they have just released their self-titled debut album via Jagjaguwar. This is a new project that sees Van Etten collaborate for the first time with her band — Jorge Balbi (drums, machines), Devra Hoff (bass, vocals), and Teeny Lieberson (synth, piano, guitar, vocals). She elaborates: (This is)…(t)he first time I have ever written songs from the ground up as a band, coming into a room with nothing but an incredible group of musicians and walking away with something so special. It was a great challenge and a life changing experience for me. Van Etten…

The Dillinger Escape Plan Australian Tour Is A Heist You Can’t Miss – Backseat Mafia
After an 8-year hiatus that left venues safer but our hearts aching, The Dillinger Escape Plan are back. The band will be commemorating their seminal 1999 album Calculating Infinity, a record that shook the foundations of both hardcore punk and metal, with a tour of Australia later this year. When REVOLVER magazine, the undisputed authority on heavy rock, ran a survey of fans and critics to crown the 5 Greatest Live Bands of All Time, the results weren’t just decisive—they were destructive. Beating out Metallica, Iron Maiden, Tool, and Pantera for the top spot was The Dillinger Escape Plan, living up to their legend as masters of onstage anarchy. Formed…

Naarm/Melbourne-based Loose Content announce debut EP ‘Costumes’ and set the skies alight with the thrilling single ‘Pet Alsatian’. – Backseat Mafia
With a repeated line we’re all going to die but maybe that’s fine, Naarm/Melbourne-based trio Loose Content sets the world on fire with their new single ‘Pet Alsatian’: a dynamic excoriating and über cool release ahead of their debut EP ‘Costumes’. Stunningly assured and filled with a delicious sneery attitude, this is a magnificent single, strutting across the Antipodean landscape with crunchy guitars and anthemic melodies replete with an important message delivered with a cathartic passion. The lyrics are beautifully expressed incandescent rage: There’s a boy up in space looking down on the earth and he says, ‘Oh God, they’re lost.’A woman and her pet Alsatian looking for an explanation.…

Love Letter to Biologique Recherche’s P50 1970
For years, I was the biggest toner skeptic you’d ever meet. “Glorified water,” I’d scoff, rolling my eyes whenever someone recommended adding a toner to my skin-care routine. I saw them as unnecessary steps designed to empty our wallets, offering nothing that a good cleanser and moisturizer couldn’t accomplish. Every toner I’d tried left my skin feeling stripped, irritated, or completely unchanged – just another bottle cluttering my bathroom counter. Then came Biologique Recherche’s P50 1970. From the first application — despite its infamous vinegar-like scent, which had me questioning all my life choices — I knew this was different. The telling tingle, the immediate clarity in my complexion, and…

Naarm/Melbourne artist Holly Hebe unveils new single, the delectable ‘Bitterness’, with live dates ahead. – Backseat Mafia
Naarm/Melbourne chanteuse Holly Hebe continues her ascendancy with her new single ‘Bitterness’ – another track that puts on display her extraordinary vocals and songwriting skills. We last visited Hebe when she released her EP ‘Ruby’ last year (see our review here) which we described as another triumph for an artist we have been admiring and reviewing for a number of years. ‘Bittersweet’ is tinged with a thread of yearning and melancholia, the production immaculate with Hebe’s delivery velvet and smooth. The song casts an eye at the modern trend of keyboard warriors and the attendant angst, with Hebe urging optimism and resilience before bitterness takes hold. The result is something…

E.l.f. Cosmetics Halo Glow Powder Filter Review With Photos
While each product featured is independently selected by our editors, we may include paid promotion. If you buy something through our links, we may earn commission. Read more about our Product Review Guidelines here. Hi, my name is Michelle, and I’m afraid of powder foundation. No, really, I’m someone with incredibly dry skin and, therefore, avoid powder foundation like it’s the plague. That’s because most formulas cling to my dry patches, feel heavy, and accentuate my fine lines, pores, and texture. The good news? I’m obsessed with product testing, which means sometimes I’m exposed to formulas that completely change my mind about an entire category of products. Enter the E.l.f.…

Anachronism / Wingz Of The Monkey / The Wednesday Flowers – Pealie’s Barn, Northallerton 01.02.2025 – Backseat Mafia
The first gig of the year happened to be at a venue I was aware of but had never visited. Pealie’s Barn is tucked away just north of the middle of nowhere but is well worth the find. It is possibly one of the nicest-smelling venues, with hanging lavender, a working pizza oven and other incense and potions wafting on the breeze. The place has an excellent outside area complete with a stage, yet tonight, due to the cold, we were thankfully inside with a stage that was 8ft in the air, allowing a great view of tonight’s bands. Possibly the most incredible venue I will visit this year, especially…

Meghan Markle already has a reputation for incorporating thoughtful design flourishes into her wardrobe; over the years, she’s subtly channeled Princess Diana’s infamous style, frequently worn pieces from woman-owned brands like Cuyana and Birdies, and even been spotted wearing an eternity ring encrusted with Markle’s own birthstone, along with those of her husband, Prince Harry, and their firstborn child, Archie. Now, in her latest Instagram post, the former royal gave fans a glimpse of yet another…

Toasted Skin Syndrome From Heating Pads, Explained
When the temperature is just about freezing outside, it’s natural to want to cozy up by the fire or warm up with your trusty heating pad or blanket. While the warmth it provides is very much welcomed during chilly times, there’s a rising concern about their use. Apparently, too much heating pad time can cause “toasted skin” syndrome. Knowing that your heating pad could be causing a skin condition isn’t the news you want to hear during the winter season. If you have one, you know just how convenient it is when you’re experiencing menstrual cramps, are sore from your new pilates class, or when you’re cold and need to…
