Jaws The Shark – Last Train To Santa Fe – Backseat Mafia
Jaws The Shark has shared his final single before the release of his debut album ‘Wasteland’ on the 19th of July via So Recordings. Worthy of featuring in the soundtrack of a classic cinematic Western film, ‘Last Train To Santa Fe’ starts off soft and sombre and then reaches a powerful crescendo. Olly Bailey has explained the writing process: “I wrote Last Train to Santa Fe after listening to a lot of Nick Cave. For some time I’d been trying to write a song that starts slow, yet is melodic and tells a story throughout. It’s a method of songwriting that I’ve not experimented much with yet in my career.” Saving the best for last, Bailey drops…

Piña coladas, pool floats, al fresco lunches — summer is all but the definition of low key, as are the haircut trends that tend to emerge each season. That means lots of texture and movement — but very little upkeep post-cut. Translation: ’tis the season of easy, breezy summer haircuts. Backseat Mafia’s favourites Balancing Act have shared their new single, ‘Laylow.’ This is coupled with the announcement of their sophomore EP, ‘Tightropes and Limericks, ‘ due for release on October 4th via The Vertex. Expanding on ‘Laylow’, guitarist Jackson Couzens shares: “This track was written on a writing trip we did to the French Alps. We were snowed into this little space and sharing rooms and sofas, we couldn’t really go anywhere, so it was perfect for writing. We all found it funny that despite being surrounded by snow in below zero temperatures, the bulk of what we wrote was actually more sunny and upbeat, and this one was no exception.” Featuring intricate guitar lines over…

Can you remember what beauty products you were using when you were 10? Chances are you were sneaking a quick swipe of lip gloss and just starting your “grown-up” nail polish collection. Erland Cooper Reveals Music Has Survived On His Buried Tape And Releases First Two ‘Unearthed’ Singles – Backseat Mafia
The first two singles from a surviving tape that was buried underground by Scottish composer Erland Cooper 3 years ago are released in line with the Summer Solstice. This follows a triumphant world premiere, at The Barbican on 8th June, in a concert like no other, when the ‘unearthed’ mastertape was played for the first time. Remarkably, the audio survived but altered and ‘co-composed’ by the soil. A large string ensemble then performed Erland’s interpretation and re-scoring of the tape, bringing the mystery to life for the first time. Introduced by John Wilson (BBC4 This Cultural Life), soloist Freya Goldmark (Ligeti Quartet) led the now completed violin concerto, in collaboration with the earth. The full album, ‘Carve the Runes…
