Just when this summer couldn’t get more apocalyptic, a packaging defect has led Schwarzkopf’s parent company, Henkel, to voluntarily recall its Osis Grip Extra Strong Mousse. The packaging defect noted on the product means that product “could leak from the package under pressure, which creates risk of explosion,” says the company’s statement. Allure has reached out to Henkel for additional comment.

It’s a pretty wide-reaching recall (Oribe, for example, had a recall earlier this year for only two batches). That doesn’t mean it’s cause for concern, however. Henkel says it came after one customer and two salon reports. The customer said they had bruising on the hand, but relievingly, it doesn’t seem any cans have exploded yet.

There were 25 batches noted in the recall, including 2901X4577N, 2901X4578N, 290265P91O, 290665Q30O, 290855N31O, 290866R38P, 290994281N, 291046L06P, 291174W17N, 291435H76O, 291435H77O, 291455N33O, 291515A59O, 291515A99O, 291515B01O, 291555N33O, 291615B01O, 291616B68P, 291716B69P, 291825E960, 291925E96O, 292015B73O, 2928Y538BO, 2928Y539BO, and 293066U32P. Those batches were distributed across Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Washington, having been sold to both professional hair stylists and beauty shoppers. “No other Henkel products are subject to this recall, and Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip 6.76 fl. Oz/200ml with codes not included in the recall are safe to use,” the company’s statement reaffirms.

If you have an affected lot, Henkel says to return wherever you bought it for a full refund. If you’re not sure or have any other questions, the company is directing everyone to customer specialists at 1-800-234-4672.

Henkel’s had a newsmaking year, albeit for less inflammatory reasons. In 2026 alone, it acquired both Olaplex and Not Your Mother’s hair-care brands.

For more on beauty industry news:

The return of tanning, unregulated peptides, and now, exploding mousse?
