Nu\u00f1ez says she tries to explain that \u201cthe inspo pic is just a launchpad\u201d for ideas. \u201cI am not a photo copy machine,\u201d she says. \u201cI am an artist.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"PullQuoteEmbedWrapper-sc-efqGLV dYCNhz composition body pullquote centered\" data-testid=\"pullquote-embed-center\">\n<p><span>\u201cI am not a photo copy machine. I am an artist.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Although she\u2019s successfully worked with clients who bring in AI-generated images to align on a manicure concept they both love, Miles says she\u2019s uneasy about the psychological, environmental, and copyright implications of the technology. \u201cI personally love using my brain for creative tasks, but those who aren\u2019t naturally inclined to flex that muscle have now replaced trying with a machine,\u201d she says. \u201cI\u2019m broadly concerned about the atrophy of imagination.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>For Haircuts and Color<\/h2>\n<p class=\"has-dropcap body dropcap has-dropcap__with-padding\">Carly Zanoni, a San Diego-based colorist who frequently shares tips with other pros on how to work from clients\u2019 inspo photos, doesn\u2019t mind an AI-generated image. \u201cI love when clients bring inspiration because it gives me insight into the overall vibe they\u2019re going for,\u201d she says. \u201cIs it bright? Soft? High contrast? Lived-in? AI images can communicate that really well.\u201d Sara Briscoe, a colorist in Queensland, Australia, agrees\u2014to a point. \u201cAny visual reference helps, because verbal communication is tough for some people,\u201d she says. \u201cBut it stops being useful when the image is so AI that there\u2019s no real texture.
